'one' makes wishes come true
30 June 2004
'one'will be making wishes come true following the fantastic response to its 'one' wish campaign asking customers for their views.
Customers were given forms to fill in during the launch of the new train franchise on 1st April and were asked to select their priorities for train service improvements as well as which charity 'one' should donate to.
Customers were asked to state where they would most like to see improvements from a list of four. The choices were: more facilities on stations, more fare offers for days out, closer links with the community or more facilities on trains.
Hundreds of passengers responded to the survey and voted 'more facilities at stations' as their top priority.
'one' communications manager, Kerri Worrall, said that 'one' had already committed to spending £11.3m on station improvements, with more than 50 of the 170 stations being upgraded within 18 months.
Refurbishments will include improved booking facilities, new customer information systems and CCTV at selected stations.
"We will also be looking at how we can improve in all the areas listed in the survey to ensure that we are meeting our customers' expectations and providing an excellent service - so it looks as though many of our passengers could be seeing their wishes come true over the coming months!" she added.
Passengers also voted overwhelmingly to donate money to the Breast Cancer Campaign and as a result, the train operator will be donating £3,000 to help the charity continue its excellent work.
A presentation of the cheque will be made to a representative of the Breast Cancer Campaign at a later date.
Many people also voted for the National Missing Persons Helpline which came a close second and therefore, 'one' will also be donating £1,000 to the charity.
